West Indies chose to bat first, hoping to put a commanding score on the board on Day 1 of the 1st Test match in the Betway Test series against South Africa. However, the visitors’ bowlers, led by Lungi Ngidi with 5 wickets for only 19 runs, and Anrich Nortje bagging 4 for 35, put a dent in that thought. The home side were bowled out for just 97 runs in 40.5 overs. There was talk by South Africa’s captain Dean Elgar before the Test match about the unfamiliarity of the Duke ball. No issues in adapting.
In reply, South Africa surpassed that total and ended the day’s play on 128 for 4 made in 43 overs. The highlight of the day was that the 19 year old Jayden Seales, took 3 of those wickets on debut. Well done! Check out the full scorecard.
In not so good news, Windies batsman Nkrumah Bonner will take no further part in the match. Tests showed he has suffered a concussion after being hit on the helmet by Nortje. Kieran Powell replaces him and will be able to bat in West Indies second innings.
Post match comments are below. First, we hear from Jayden Seales.
