The Grenada Cultural Foundation promised ‘a taste of Spice.’ Those who attended, got that, and more.

After a morning of heavy rain on Tuesday February 26, 2019, the heavens cleared, allowing those who attended ‘A Taste of Spice’ in the heart of Grenada’s capital to experience some of Grenada’s culture. From steelpan music, to the famous ‘jab jabs’ the mostly local audience was treated to just a sampling of what they could expect to witness at Spicemas. Grenada will launch their August carnival soon. It is riding the wave of 5 of their soca artistes reaching the finals of the International Soca Monarch competition. ‘Fantastic Friday’ will take place in Trinidad this week.

There were also vendors displaying a variety of products including art, jewellery, chocolate and nutmeg-flavoured products.

The event was given importance by the attendance of the island’s Governor General, Dame Cecile La Grenade.

I left before the soca artistes performed. From live videos on the Foundation’s Facebook page, a good time was had by all.

Well done to the Grenada Cultural Foundation! If you have never been to Carnival in Grenada, you owe it to yourself to come at least once. It is a unique and authentic experience. Chances are, a taste won’t be enough for you.
